Iridium Powder and other forms are available through our company. Iridium is a valuable metal that is both uncommon and difficult to deal with due to its hardness, brittleness, and low ductility. Because of these characteristics, iridium is only found in very small amounts. It seems to be a metallic substance that is shiny and has a silvery colour. It is estimated that there are around 3 x 10 6 parts per million of it present in the crust of the planet. Iridium is unaffected by atmospheric oxygen and water, and it is resistant to the action of all acids, including "aqua regia." This property of iridium is consistent with its location in the periodic table (this acid is used to separate iridium from the other platinum group metals).
Iridium, on the other hand, is hostile to fused sodium hydroxide. Because of its high resistance to corrosion, it is frequently used as an alloying agent in combination with other metals, such as gold and osmium, to form alloys that are both exceedingly hard and have a high level of corrosion resistance. Iridium is also utilised in the production of spark plugs, and its radioactive isotope, 92Ir, functions as a medium-energy gamma emitter in the field of industrial radiography.
